Patrick Lencioni is a world-class consultant for leaders. His books occupy countless bookshelves and offer insights for greater effectiveness. He’s always producing new material, but his favorite quote is telling: “People need to be reminded more than they need to be instructed.” Those words came from Samuel Johnson (1709-1784), an English lexicographer. Lencioni confessed he should read fewer new books & articles and focus more on the top ten he’s already read. He noted, “I’ve forgotten most of what I learned in those books, and I’m certainly not using or tapping into more than a fraction of what they have to offer.” He acknowledged he’s filling up brain cells with new information that crowds out what he needs to remember and practice. In referencing Johnson’s words, Lencioni stated, “I suppose what he really meant was that we already have plenty of information. We just need to use it.” His words apply to all pursuits, and maybe most pointedly to the truth of Scripture…we just need to use it. Inc.com, July 2023
