MISTAKES
A church in Borja, Spain, was concerned about the flaking of a fresco in their church building. It was an image of Jesus. The church determined something should be done to restore the work of art. Cecila Gimenez got to work. When finished, the restoration was less than satisfactory. Some derisively called it “potato Jesus,” and it bore little resemblance to the original painting. There is some dispute as to whether she was actually authorized to make the repairs. Cecilia claimed she had full authorization. In what was a strange and unexpected effect of the debacle, people started coming to visit it. It became a major tourist attraction, attracting over 150,000 visitors. It is now protected by plexiglasses. I suppose it is fitting, because Jesus not only forgives our mistakes, sometimes he uses them for his glory.
