Health System in Springfield, Illinois,
removed crucifixes from hospital walls.
It was not because in any way they were
embarrassed about the cross of Christ.
They were concerned that with the
higher levels of violence people might
use them as weapons. They are hoping to
find replacement crucifixes that will be
safer. What a shame that anyone would
consider turning the cross into a weapon.
But there is another sense in which the
cross is a weapon. It is a weapon against
sin, guilt, and shame.
