Is It Necessary to Learn Greek

Posted by Ian McCloy on June 17, 2008 23:01

just a thought to ponder

Is it really necessary to learn Biblical Greek to be respected pastor

Will learning Greek give one a deeper meaning of the bible text when there are so many Greek to English word conversions available to use free of charge on The Internet

Along with new Exhaustive Concordances with the word to word translation or Greek to English Dictionaries like "Complete Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words" by Dr. Bill Mounce

I personally feel that using NT Greek is helpful in the development of sermons. It gives us more and better understanding of the text. I hesitate to bring all that exegetical research to the congregation, however. I think the people should be privy to our study, not recipients of all we’ve studied. In short, use Greek references sparingly.
On a side note, yes, you should still have to take NT Greek to get your MDiv.
